2004 album from Maurice White, Phil Bailey & Co. featuring the hit single 'All In The Way'. Charly.

In an age wherein electronic or rap that heavily samples from others' successes is the rage, real musicianship seems to be a rare commodity. EWF can always be counted on to provide a great balance of outstanding vocals and out-of-this-world instrumental backing. The latest offering from the band, "The Promise", does not disappoint. Though the album lacks a song or two that really grabs the listener (a "Fantasy" or "Shining Star", so to speak), there are still some winners in the actual 12-song set (five are "intros"). Among these are the first cut ("All in the Way"), "Where Do We Go From Here?", "Why?" (with legendary percussionist Paulinho Da Costa and alto sax man Gerald Albright), the Latin-flavored "Never", "All About Love", "She Waits", "Let Me Love You", and the one track that harkens back to the band's heyday, "Dirty". The latter, actually recorded in 1978, is much too short at only 3:47, leaving the listener pining for more. Perhaps, "the promise" that that songs hints at will be fulfilled in the group's next outing.
