Finally, here's a good punk band! I know their first CD sounded a little, no, LOT like Blink 182, but they got out of the pop/punk rut. Lechuza is a mix of guitar-driven punk, start-stop rhythms, a little hardcore, and loads of melodic singing. Fenix TX can no longer be compared to Sum 41 and Blink 182. The closest matches now would probably be American Hi-Fi, New Found Glory and Good Charlotte. The definite highlight tracks are: "Threesome"-The first single, an awesome song that features singer Will Salazar's vocal talent. It's probably the best song on the CD. Usually it's a bad sign when the single is the best song, but this song is just SO AWESOME! The mix of singing and rhythm is nice, as are the time changes and breaks. My only problem is that it's so short. "Pasture Of Muppets"-A good song with a title parodying a Metallica classic. It has an incredibly catchy chorus and the bass work is commendable. "Manufactured Inspirato"-The song closest to sounding like American Hi-Fi. The song deals with being an American and comments a lot on society. Good lyrical content. "Phoebe Cates"-The most pop/punk song here. Notice I didn't say POP. It's pop/punk. It is reminescent of their older material. The music is very good here, and the song is about a girl named Phoebe that the guy in the song just can't stop thinking about. The remaining songs are all pretty good, especially the hidden track after "El Borracho". The only songs that aren't great are "Beating A Dead Horse" and "Tearjerker". Oh, by the way, they only swear a little in "Something Bad's Gonna Happen", so don't worry about swearing. Overall awesome CD from one of the few promising mainsream punk bands.
