2008 belated U.S. release of British singer/songwriter Harcourt's fourth full length album, originally released in 2006. Often compared to such diverse artists as Neil Finn and Tom Waits, Harcourt's touching and personal songwriting puts him in a class all to himself. Features guest appearances from former Blur guitarist (and current solo star) Graham Coxon, The Magic Numbers and BJ Cole. Includes the first single, 'Visit From The Dead Dog'. EMI.
Editorial Reviews
This is the album I have been waiting for Ed to write since "Here Be Monsters"....I knew it would come down the pipe eventually, and it was well worth the wait. Ed Harcourt could be described as the UK's answer to Rufus Wainwright; a talented singer/songwriter who tends to be the critic's darling, yet has always lacked the attention of the mainstream. Fans of Ed Harcourt know him to be a quirky and very talented artist, although the type of artist whose talents by their nature produce uneven and unpredictable results....following his last two tepid and oddly restrained releases, "The Beautiful Lie" fully fleshes out the deeply textured, baroque sound only hinted at in Harcourt's landmark album "Here Be Monsters", with varied and lush instrumentation enhancing rather than detracting from his always clever and poetic lyrics and subdued, husky vocals. This wonderful album is the definitive culmination of the elements which mark his singular style. Highest recommendation!
