Belgium's K's Choice has that same quirky lyrical quality that so many European rock-pop acts have. The weird wordplay and strange turns of phrase are an acquired taste, but this band's melodic sensibility is absolutely winning. Lead vocalist Sarah Bettens' slightly husky voice adds enormously to her hooky songs, and aside from a tendency to write too many two-note verses, this band's pop songcraft smokes. "Everything for Free" turned me on to this band, with its gorgeous chorus, vocal harmonies, and irresistible guitar break (where the descending bassline changes the turn of the music). "Believe" almost reminds me of Letters to Cleo rhythmically, and "In Your Room", "Butterflies Instead" and "God in My Bed" sound like vintage college-pop material. Some work on the lyrics and this band will be an A-list act.
