After a long hiatus from the studio, Manfred Mann and Manfred Mann's Earth Band celebrate over 35 years in the business with the much anticipated release of their cd 2006. Recorded in Europe over the last year, Mann reached into his arsenal of keyboards and arrives at an interesting destination for this progressive rock extravaganza. Back for the mission are original lead vocalists Chris Thompson, Mick Rodgers and the ever-popular Noel McCalla. 14 tracks of glorious Manfred Mann's Earth Band music right in time for your New Year's celebration.
"Demons and Dragons" kicks off the disc, with dual vocals supplied by McCalla and Rodgers. This hard rocking track celebrates the sounds that made this band famous as Mann's keyboard artistry is taken to new levels with this incredible tune.
International by design, 2006 finds MMEB incorporating new rhythms and sounds that will truly excite their new and loyal fan base. The Roaring Silence era vocalist Chris Thompson takes on the killer track "Get Me Out Of This." His familiar voice and the powerful blending of the rhythm section make this a very memorable reunion indeed.
Manfred has always had a knack of discovering some incredible song over the years and making them his own musical treasures, 2006 has him exploring the classics and you will hear themes by Tchaikovsky on "Independent Woman", as well as Gustav Holst on the prog-rocker "Mars."

I liked Manfred Mann in the seventies, but I love them now. This album smokes. Everything about it shows maturity. The musicians are scary good, the composition extremely original, the lyrics excellent. I like "plains " the album from 1991 even more, which is tribal music revisited with GREAT talent. This one is good funk by times, good rock the rest. It includes a superb remake of Tchaikovsky's first concerto ( oh, so classic) into an hymn for the liberated woman. The melody is presented without the fire of the concerto, it's one of the best classical melodies I think. I was glad to rediscover it this way, it shows its beauty well.
