Tribute album recorded by Eliades Ochoa (Buena Vista Social Club) & the famous Cuarteto Patria in homage to the great Cuban composer / performer Nico Saquito (born Benito Antonio Fernandez Ortiz). Released by Egrem in 1998, this disc includes 10 pieces written by Nico himself.
This is simple but great Cuban peasant music played by a master guitarrist, a real treat. The guitar variations in tracks 2 and 4 are excellent, and track 5, Orillas del Cauto, is worth the whole CD. The guitar technique by Ochoa is world class. However the balance of this recording is not great, the drums are muted and largely in the background, and you must play with the balance to get a feel for the music. The guitar playing is marvelous.
