Of all of Eliades' releases that I have heard so far, this CD is my second favorite after Tribute to the Cuarteto Patria. There is some excellent solo tres work by Ochoa in nearly all the tracks. The vocals and playing throughout are classic Ochoa and Cuarteto Patria. Whereas some of their releases and collaborations have a somewhat more modern sound with the addition of other instruments like saxophones or trumpets, this CD presents an excellent collection of their signature sound - that of the earthy soul of traditional Son. Many compilations have released selected songs of Eliades & the Cuarteto, but this CD has many original songs unreleased on other albums. Almost all the songs are outstanding, including Que Te Parece Cholito, Caminita de Zaza, Rita la Caimana, and Estoy Hecho Tierra. The Cuarteto also lends their unique mark to the fabulous classic, Beso Discreto; and Mujer Perjura and Alma de Mujer are nice, soothing ballads with relaxing melodies. But, my personal favorite is the last track, La Culembra - which is simply well put together all around. And, as an Egrem release, the acoustics throughout are fabulous. In short, it is an excellent additional to any collection of traditional Cuban Son.
