Back in 1984-85 if there were no such person as Whitney Houston, Helen Folasade Adu, would have been the hottest thing in the music business. Alas, she had to contend with Ms. Houston's emerging r&b/pop sound. Anyway, Smooth Operator was a very nice change to me since a lot of us were caught up in the Michael/Prince/Madonna/Whitney assault on the music industry. Her tunes were more mellow, with "your love is king", "smooth operator", and the 1972 Timmy Thomas remake "why can't we live together." I'm glad that Sade continued on thru the 80's and 90's, and not bowing to confirm like her other music comrades. She dominates the smooth jazz stations, whereas the others, can't make that claim. Sade's voice is king!
