Who can forget the super hit "I Swear" from the summer of 1994? It spent an incredible 11 week run at #1 and thanks to it, All-4-One won a grammy award for "Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group". Almost 15 years later the song is still one of my favorite ballads of all time and the vocal performence by All-4-One is incomprehensible. The Multiracial quartet All-4-One with members Jamie Jones, Delious Kennedy, Tony Borowiak and Alfred Nevarez defenitely need credit cause they're excellent singers and they work fine together just like Boyz II Men working better as a unit then individually. James Jones with his boyish silk smooth vocals and Delious Kennedy with his much deeper voice are both standout singers and quite surprisingly none of them had a successful solo carrer afterwards. Good singers or not, With such a big hit as "I Swear" you obviously wonder how the rest of the album sound like and if there is another song atleast half as good as their hit was. Well, only about half of the 11 songs here are ballads, the rest are rather forgettable midtempos/uptempos. Another problem is that many of the songs aren't meant to be singles, they're fine songs vocally but nothing that people would bother buying. Even if the album got it's moments it's hard not to be dissapointed when you had much higher expections. Their first single "So Much In Love" actually reached #5 and is a beautiful a cappella song simular to Boyz II Men's "It's So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday", "A Better Man" another fine a cappella and, "Down To The Last Drop" and "Oh Girl" are also worthwile songs vocally without being too remarkable. Their other singles "Breathless" and "She Got Skillz" are dull uptempo's, the latter even being one of the worst songs of that year. "The Bomb" and "Something About You" two more uptempos are just embarrasing with cliche lyrics while "Without You" is forgettable aswell. The last song, the power ballad "Here If You're Ready" deserved a better fortune though and should have been the third single. Overall, All-4-One were meant for better things if only they would've had better material and more promotion. Some of the material here isn't good enough to satisfy most listeners and end up sounding very genetic and cliche at times, eventhough it got it's moments with the aformentioned songs. This album is hit and miss. The surprising thing however is that they're sophmore album And the Music Speaks released just on year after gave them another hit, the excellent power-ballad "I Can Love You Like That", if only it could have appeared on this album instead?. Sadly it became their last hit and even if the band is still together they haven't been able to archive any recent success. Buy this album if you want to relive some memorioes of the past or if great vocals is more important then memorable songs. This album is ok, not more.
