Kyle Vincent emerged in the late 90's after a long period of dormancy in which he transferred from (unknown) teen idol as lead vocalist of Candy to one of the best pure pop practicioners around. Opening for Barry Manilow gives you a clue as to what he was going for with this CD, but in reality there's more energy and punch to these songs than any of Mr. Manilow's. The lead track "Arianne" is a high water mark for power pop and Kyle's career, supposedly played on hundreds of in-store satellite radios. It's a shame that a song this beautiful should be relegated to Wal-Marts and grocery stores, but at least it's getting some exposure. I would go as far as to say it's the best love song since "Day After Day" (Badfinger). The other tunes consist of snappy co-writes with the likes of Tommy Dunbar and P. Hux, both legends in the world of indie pop, percentage wise resulting in a great album to listen to straight through. Best Tracks: "Arianne" - Should I rave on any more about this song? "Wake Me Up" - Another catchy, pure pop song that starts with a '65 Byrds riff and shifts into a more modern groove. "One More Reason" - Piano-led ballad that highlights Kyle's silky smooth vocals. Best slow track on the record. "In The Worst Way" - Similar to "Wake Me Up", this song's opening jangly riff is considerably more rocking, and the chorus simply soars like power pop should. Well produced and hooky, this should have hit radio. "I Used To Love The Girl" - Plaintive, sad lyrics and a hook that holds its own with 70's soft rock like "Lyin Eyes" and "Sister Golden Hair".
