In the mid-late fifties, Buddy Holly and the Crickets came onto the emerging rock and roll scene. Unfortunately in 1959, just as Holly began to reach star status, his life was cut tragically short, in a plane crash that also claimed the lives of the Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens. It's been forty years. How does Holly's music measure up by today's standards? Quite well, surprisingly? Read on to see how well the Twentieth Century Masters collection represents Holly. THE GOOD: You get several of Holly's biggest hits here, on a single disc. These include That'll Be The Day, Words Of Love, Everyday, Peggy Sue, Not Fade Away, Maybe Baby, Oh Boy, It's So Easy, True Love Ways, and It Doesn't Matter Anymore. These songs are nothing short of excellent. THE BAD: WAY TOO MANY SONGS ARE MISSIG IN ACTION! Where are Fool's Paradise, Well All Right, Heartbeat, Wishing, Peggy Sue Got Married, Crying Waiting Hoping, Learning The Game, and What To Do? And why doesn't the CD come anywhere near filling the eighty minutes that will fit on a single disc? OVERALL: Don't bother with this CD unless you can find it in the budget bin. Take my advice and shell out the extra cash for the two-disc Buddy Holly Collection. It costs a little more, but it's worth it.
