Free is a fantastic song, but the fact is, you're not getting much here. You get three versions of Free and that is all. It also doesn't help any that the versions are nearly identical. It might have been a good way to prepare for Music for People, but now it's not really necessary. The single opens with the Radio Remix, which is essentially the album mix, but heavier on the guitars. It sounds about the same, but you can hear some obvious differences right from the start. This version is pretty cool, especially with the extra guitars at the end, but I like the album mix better. Next is the version that appeared on Music for People. Chances are you've already got that album, so there's not much to say about it. Like I said, it's a very good song. One of his best. The last remix is the Black Noise Remix. It's still about the same, but like the name implys it's a lot more noisy. A lot of the melody is done on electronics, so it lends it a new sound. There's also some vocals that are either new or very low in the original mix. Pretty cool mix, but still not very different. About as good as the original. The two mixes on here aren't bad, but I just wish this single had more substance. Surely, Jon had some songs leftover from the album's sessions. Heck, I would've taken some demos or live performances over these. I'd only recommend this to die hard VAST fans. It's nice to have, but I doubt I'll ever listen to it again. If you want it, you should probably get it now, while you still can. You're not missing much if you don't though.
