Venice was started in 1977 by cousins Michael and Kipp Lennon. Michael's brother Mark joined the band in 1978, followed by Kipp's brother Pat. Their music has been described as the "Southern California sound of the 1970s" David Crosby has referred to Venice as "the best vocal group in the country and one of the best bands of any kind I have ever heard." Venice used an old church in Amsterdam to record their album "Amsterdam "; their follow up to 2005's highly successful album "Pacific standard time ": The whole album is recorded live-to-tape. This is significant because it's the first time Venice has ever done this.
