I am actually listening to this album right now. I've seen Veronica several times in concert in her hometown of San Francisco, and she always puts on a fantastic show. The sultry tones on this album reveal a vocalist with a complex maturity. From the downright sexy "Dirty Little Secret" to the haunting story-telling of transgender transcendence in "Black Diamond Days," Veronica's voice is at once cool and aloof, and yet at the same time incredibly down-to-earth and open in its honesty. Although these two songs are probably the showpieces of this album, my personal favorite is "I Can't Believe." In this number a more intimate tone is revealed in Klaus's voice, with plain lyrics demonstrating a performance that moves beyond boundaries and into broader appeal. This album is one of those little gems that I imagine I'll still be playing ten years from now.
