Singer was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas "over thirty years ago." Roseanna was raised in Texarkana, Arkansas before moving to Houston, Texas and from there to New York City. "I sang in every possible situation," she said about her mother's gospel influence from the age of four through show and rock tunes in high school.
Although she enjoyed the rock bands in Houston in the late seventies, she was ready for a change when Ray Sullenger, a popular local jazz vocalist suggested something different. The tenor sax legend Arnett Cobb featured her at New York's Village Vanguard. While attending one of her performances, Oscar Peterson joined her on stage. Other guests include Bill Evans, Tommy Flanagan, Joe Williams, and Eddie Gomez and many others who encouraged her to move to New York.
She has shared or opened the stage for artists such as Buddy Rich, Mel Lewis, Al DiMeola, Elvin Jones, Kenny Barron, Walter Davis, Jr., Hank Jones, Junior Mance, Archie Shepp, Mulgrew Miller, Randy Brecker and others. Her long-time supporter, Steve Allen, featured Roseanna on an album of original tunes and NBC's Fantasy program. She has also appeared on Ramsey Lewis's "BET on Jazz" with Steve Kuhn and Keeter Betts. Ms. Vitro has five CD's [Ed. Note: now six with "Catchin' Some Rays", Telarc Jazz] to her credit: "Passion Dance" (Jan 96), her debut with Telarc Jazz, "Softly," her first with Concord, and "Listen Here," "A Quiet Place," and "Reaching for the Moon." 9 Songs.
