This review is from: Drankin Patnaz (Bonus DVD) (Audio CD)
Tired of checking this website for Southern rap albums because all you see are "The south get it crunk! Pick up this ish right now!"-style reviews? Well, here's a new one for you. I'm not saying that the YoungBloodZ second album, Drankin' Patnaz, is bad, but it really doesn't distance itself from the pack. For instance, rapper Sean Paul (NOT to be confused with Dutty Rock Sean Paul) doesn't sound much different than any other dirty South rapper. His rap style is still decent enough, but J-Bo's rapping is better. Now on to the album. Instant standouts are "Lean Low" with Backbone and, of course, "Damn!" (people can stop pretending they don't like this song). I'm sure the duo are as surprised as anyone else that that song climbed to #4 on the POP charts. Anyway, the only other song besides those two singles that really stands out is "Mud Pit". Most of the rest of the album is just okay. Actually, there are a few songs that I could do without, like "Hustle" (featuring Killer Mike) and "Lane to Lane", an ode to drunk driving. There are also a couple of obligatory songs about cars, the tolerable "Cadillac Pimpin'" and the skippable "My Automobile". And it seems like Sean and J are trying to hark on past glory a lot, too (they bring up "U-Way" in a lot of the songs). If you're a fan of anything southern, then you'll be pleased with this album. Everyone else should borrow this album first. Anthony Rupert
