I am proud to be able to say that I saw the Kabalas twice in live performance--once at a company party where the attendees had not the least idea what they were in for. Once they found out, they seized upon it with wild cries of delight and exuberance. It was the best time I've ever had. The Kabalas deconstruct klezmer with love, respect, and impeccable musicianship. They work in pop culture references and social commentary, and the result is a delight. I regret that they're no longer performing live, but we have their CDs to remind us of what was. I hope to hear more from them in whatever future musical incarnation they appear.
